Criminal Background Checks Performed by LobbyGaurd Units at Jenks Public Schools

Criminal background checks have become a new system of excluding unwanted visitors from public schools. The new system will arrive performing the background checks beginning on February 22nd. The LobbyGaurd units ask for driver's license or state identification, photograph and look something like an ATM machine. These new machines will be put inside a school lobby site and hopefully by the end of March they will be in each of the schools.



However, says the Department of Justice and the Department of Education, occurrences of school violence are very rare. The studies performed by these departments show that most of the violence in the school is performed by the students and not visitors or intruders. Yet, it only takes one incident of sexual assault or violent acts to traumatize a community. A number of school shooting incidents across the U.S. made Jenks school administrators take the new LobbyGaurd background check machines seriously. The old form of 'signing-in' was now considered to be obsolete.



In the fall, the schools underwent an evaluation of how well two of the LobbyGaurd machines performed. They performed well and the administrators decided to enforce the machines at all school sites.



Jenks is the only school district in all Oklahoma to use the machines. About two hundred and fifty different institutions are using the machines for criminal background checks to this day on the east coast.
